Prevention options for employers
Support
Various offices and tools support employers in the implementation of occupational health and safety measures in the company. This minimises the workload for the employer.
Companies have a right to advice from the competent implementation body, i.e. the cantonal labour inspectorate or Suva, regarding the protective measures to be taken. Support is also provided by industry solutions or FCOS and also by private companies that offer advice.

Successful prevention in the area of occupational health and safety requires trained employees.
The appropriate training depends primarily on the hazards present in the company that can lead to accidents and illnesses. The occupational health and safety solution chosen by the company also plays a role.

Leading by example
Occupational health and safety is a topic that affects everyone in the company. Supervisors who take care of their own health and comply with occupational safety rules act as role models.
Employers can lead by example through their own behaviour. This makes it easier to fulfil the statutory duty of care for employees.

Involving employees
Occupational health and safety is a team effort. Involving employees ensures that they are able to understand the reasoning behind the measures. And, as well as guaranteeing their right to participate in all aspects of occupational health and safety, it also utilises their potential. This makes it easier to ensure safe working conditions.

Corporate culture
Ensuring occupational health and safety pays off. A corporate culture that promotes the health of employees also motivates them.
Establishing a health and safety culture in the company is an outward sign that the employees are valued and contributes to the overall corporate culture. Occupational safety also plays a large part in recruitment. The corporate culture is a key factor when it comes to attracting staff and especially skilled workers.

Mental health
The mental health of employees is just as important as their physical health.
If employees are absent from work due to mental illness, their absence has the same effect as if they were unable to come to work due to an accident. It therefore makes sense for employers to pay due regard to the mental health of their employees
